Dennis Speurgon -2019 Champ
That first race was supposed to be a shakedown race to get ready for the BIG race coming up at St. Louis called Monster Mopar Sunday. Well I thought I was ready so off I went. I entered my car in the street tire class again. It seemed like there was a million cars at this event and I was pretty nervous again! The racing started and I was winning rounds again. I ended up going all the way to the final round and lost with a .002 red light! DANG this is FUN! I won $200, about the same money I made at the time working all week!
My actual 3rd race I took this car out I went to Pevely 1/8 mi track again and won 1st place again! I was hooked and have kept this hobby up my whole life. As time went by my cars would get faster. (You have to do that when you have a sibling rivalry).
My biggest achievement before winning the Victory NSS Championship was winning the Nostalgia Drags in Wentzville Mo at the famous Mid-America Raceway In August of 1997.
The Victory Nostalgia Super Stock Series is by far the best thing I have done with the racing. The racers are some of the toughest competitors you could ever race against. The cars are the coolest on the track and I am very proud to be a part of this! To win a championship in this Series is my highest achievement. I hope to race many more seasons with this group. I would like to thank Dennis Mothershed for all he has done to make this a reality and also Chris Schneider for launching this Series.
THE CAR
The car I'm running is a 1969 Dodge Dart. The engine is a 499 cubic inch stroker stuffed into an aluminum Indy Maxx low-deck block. It has Indy 440-1 345 cnc ported heads, Indy Modman intake manifold with a pair of 800 cfm edelbrock avs carbs. It has the 727 Torqueflite, Dana 60 rear all hooked together with a Chrome moly Victory Driveshaft. The power hits the track on 29.5 x 10.5 Mickey Thompson slicks with leverage from a self installed 4-link.
We named the car Dartzilla because it made the car a little ornery.
